Mugabe Was Better Than Mnangagwa – Chamisa

The MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa said his party will not be shaken by ‘persecution on his supporters ‘by the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Speaking to journalists at Harare Magistrate’s court after the release of his party’s deputy chair Tendai Biti who was convicted of violating electoral laws, Chamisa said his party was very aware of the persecution of human rights defenders and would not be shaken.

“One of our pillars is being targeted by the ZANU PF and he is being persecuted on the simple account that he is telling the truth,” Chamisa said.

“We are aware of the targets on our leaders across the country. We are also aware of the target on lawyers and doctors for human rights which is quiet disturbing because even Mugabe at his worst we never saw the attack on human rights defenders,” he said

Chamisa was attending the court’s ruling in solidarity with Biti who was facing charges of contravening the Electoral Act.

Biti was convicted on both counts against him and was sentenced to seven days in prison which were wholly suspended on condition that he pays $200 fine, on the second count, he was sentenced to six months in prison which was wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Biti said he would appeal both the conviction and sentence at the High Cour
