A senior member of the ruling ZANU-PF party in Matebeleland North, Mr. Sifiso Mpofu (pictured), has been arrested over illegal possession of 120 kilograms of ivory as well as a suspected case of running a poaching cartel in the Victoria Falls area.
Mpofu is a former Mayor of Victoria Falls and also previously worked for ZANU-PF politburo member Obert Mpofu, who is also heavily invested in tourism and resort town. Mpofu was elected Victoria Falls Mayor in 2013.
ZOOMZimbabwe understands that Mpofu was also found in possession of an unlisenced firearm when detectives pounced on him last night.
ZimParks national spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo confirmed Mpofu’s arrest on Friday morning.
Mpofu was one of the most active Zanu-PF politicians in the run-up to the July 31 elections as he drummed up support for the party’s candidates throughout Matabeleland North Province
