On Friday, six-year-old Ntando Makhathini fell from the seventh floor of the flat of his father Jimmy Kevin (38) at Pixley House in Durban, South Africa.
He sustained head injuries and died on Saturday.
Jimmy said Ntando lived with his gogo in Umlazi but was visiting him for the school holidays.
He said he left him watching TV in the dining room and went to the bathroom.
“I was in the shower and didn’t hear him.”

Jimmy said when he finished, Ntando was nowhere to be seen.
“I went to check if he was on the sixth floor, as he had friends there.”
Two men told him a child had fallen from a flat.
“I went back and saw the window was open and he was lying on the road. I ran down and found him covered in blood.
“Paramedics rushed him to hospital.”
Flat supervisor Patrick Kabwe said it was the first time something like that had happened.
Colonel Thembeka Mbele said an inquest docket was opened.
