MDC Secretary-General Douglas Mwonzora has said if he contests for the MDC presidency and wins the vote, he will bring back founding members who include former party vice president Thokozani Khupe.

He also did not mince his words and said , Obert Gutu, Abednico Bhebhe, Lovemore Moyo, and many others who left following the ascendancy to the throne by Nelson Chamisa are needed in the main MDC to fight from a common position.

Mwonzora said people like Khupe who are founding members have an institutional memory of the party that is currently missing.

He said Khupe was Tsvangirai’s deputy for over 15 years, and the opposition MDC needs to unite and work with everyone.

Mwonzora further said that the MDC needed to bring on board even former ZANU-PF members as long as they would toe the party line.

Khupe, Ncube, Gutu and Lovemore Moyo left the MDC led by Chamisa following the death of Morgan Tsvangirai.

The MDC heads into an elective Congress from 24 to 26 May 2019. Although Mwonzora has yet to declare his candidature, it is expected he will get nominated to challenge party leader Nelson Chamisa.

MDC vice president Elias Mudzuri is also reportedly fancying his chances.
