Zanu-PF official and businessman Litten Chikoore who was shot to infamy after a video of him viciously assaulting a defenceless man went viral on social media was sentenced to 8 months in prison.
Kadoma Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba convicted Chikoore of assault and sentenced him to 8 months in prison. However, Chikoore will not spend a single night in jail after the magistrate suspended the whole sentence.
3 months were suspended on condition that Chikoore does not commit a similar offence within the next five years while 5 months were suspended on condition that Chikoore performs 175 hours of community service.
The magistrate said that he had decided against a custodial sentence because the complaint did not sustain serious injuries. He also said that the force used by Chikoore was moderate and there was no danger to the life of the victim.
The state unsuccessfully tried to argue for a custodial sentence after noting that Chikoore has three previous cases at the court which were all withdrawn. These include attempted murder (2014), impersonating a cop (2014) and contravening the mines and mining act (2016).
