MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has been denied seat at the VIP tent at national hero Dr Dumiso Dabengwa‘s memorial being held at the White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
The MDC leader was told the VIP is for the family and senior members of Government, Zapu and the Dumiso Dabengwa Memorial trust, which he is none of these.
Instead, Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander Philip Valerio Sibanda, who was commanded by Dabengwa in ZIPRA during the liberation war, was among the dignitaries inside the VIP tent.
Chamisa, who was endorsed by Dabengwa in the 2018 presidential elections, had to find some sitting place in an adjacent tent.
“The VIP is for the family and senior members of Government, Zapu and Dumiso Dabengwa Memorial trust,” Chamisa was reportedly told by security before being pointed to an adjacent tent.
There were reports that, in a move widely seen as a ploy to screen speakers at the late national hero, Dumiso Dabengwa‘s burial set for this Saturday, the Joint Operations Command (JOC) has taken over the burial programme.
Meanwhile, government provided 11 buses to ferry residents who intend to attend the memorial service.
