VOTING for the Standing Committee at the 5th congress of the MDC stretched well into the night on Sunday and only ended in the early hours of Monday.
By sun rise Monday, election officials were in the process of tallying the results of the close to 6,000 delegates who are believed to have participated in the Congress.
An electric power blackout on Sunday evening saw the party rely on car headlamps to ensure voting continued.
The party’s outgoing deputy national chairman Tendai Biti had expressed fear of ballot stuffing at the Congress. He is eyeing the hotly contested vice presidency, alongside Welshman Ncube, Morgen Komichi and Lynette Karenyi.
Power was restored after close to two hours.
On paper, the MDC congress was supposed to have ended Sunday mid day.
Only the Youth Assembly results have been announced so far, where Obey Sithole won the chairmanship.
Women Assembly and Standing Committee results are expected Monday before midday.
