Watch Donald Trump Visits North Korea

Donald Trump became the first sitting US president to set foot in North Korea after meeting Kim Jong-un in the demilitarised zone on Sunday, 30 June 2019.

The US president who is known for his showmanship invited Kim for the meeting via a Saturday morning tweet while in Osaka, Japan where he is attending the G20 summit.

In total Trump took 20 steps into North Korea, before walking back into South Korea with Kim were they held a private meeting at the Freedom House.

The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a 250 kilometre (160 miles) strip of land established as a buffer zone between North Korea and South Korea in 1953 where negotiations between the two countries take place.

This is the third meeting between Trump and Kim Jong-un in an attempt to facilitate the de-nuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

Their first meeting was the 2018 North Korea–United States Singapore Summit followed by the 2019 North Korea–United States Hanoi Summit in Vietnam.
