PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent her condolence message to the Tsvangirai family following the death of Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java who died in Harare on Monday from injuries of a road traffic accident.

Tsvangirai-Java, who was in her first term as legislator for Glen View South (MDC), was involved in a road accident near Kwekwe in mid-May, which claimed two of her aides.

Former deputy prime minister of Zimbabwe, Professor Arthur Mutambara, who worked with Morgan Tsvangirai in the inclusive government, said: “So sad to read about the death of Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java. Condolences to the Tsvangirai and MDC families. Gone too soon. MHSRIP.”

The Head of Delegation of the European Union to Zimbabwe, Timo Olkkonen, sent in his condolence message.

“Saddened to hear about the untimely death of Hon Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java, the young, hopeful MP for Glen View South and Secretary of the MDC Alliance Women’s League. Our thoughts are with the Tsvangirai and Java families. Sincere condolences on behalf of the European Union in Zimbabwe.”

Opposition Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) led by Nkosana Moyo said: “APA is saddened to learn of the passing of legislator Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java. Our condolences to her family, the MDC Alliance and Zimbabweans in general.”

Linda Masarira, leader of the opposition LEAD party said: “My heartfelt condolences to the Tsvangirai family and MDC Alliance on the death of Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java. May the good Lord comfort you during this trying time. Rest In Power Vimbai.”

Vimbai was involved in a road accident on the night of 13 May near Kwekwe while travelling to Harare from a pre-Congress MDC meeting in Matebeleland.

A heartbroken Lynette Karenyi-Kore, the MDC vice president, told ZOOMZimbabwe that the MDC had suffered a huge loss with the passing on of Mrs. Tsvangirai-Java.

Vimbai was the opposition MDC legislator for Glen View South. Her condition was so bad she could not attend the MDC Congress held in Gweru between 24 May to 26 May, although her party put up a brave face and said doctors had advised her not to travel to Gweru.

“With or without the doctors’ advice, there was no way Vimbai could travel to gweru for the Congress as she was in bad shape all the time since 12 May,” ZOOMZimbabwe heard.

“There were plans to move her abroad for medication, but there was no way she could be moved while still in the ICU. The hope was that she would recover slightly to allow her to be moved abroad,” the source said.
