The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has named Zimbabwe-born Springbik prop Tendai Mtawarira, “The Beast” as one of Zimbabwe’s tourism ambassadors.
Mtawarira was conferred the honour this morning at a Harare hotel by the Minister of Environment, Tourism & Hospitality Industry, Hon. Prisca Mupfumira.
Mtawarira says although he represents South Africa at the big stage in world rugby, he has never forgotten where he came from.
“When I am not playing rugby, I love coming back home and being at Victoria Falls, and encouraging my friends to visit Zimbabwe. I call upon a lot of our fellow Zimbabweans to come back home and take part in building this nation to its former glory,” Mtawarira said.
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s main objective for the appointment is to increase tourism traffic into destination Zimbabwe.
This comes as the global trend in tourism today calls for destinations to appoint Tourism Ambassadors as advocates for the destination offerings.
