Austerity measures: Gweru Polytechnic dumps meat, breakfast on revised meal plan

STUDENTS at Gweru Polytechnic are up in arms with administration for removing meat from the revised meal plan unveiled this week, Zim Morning Post has learnt.

This publication saw the revised meal plan approved by the institution’s principal identified only as Chandiwana dated September 23.

The college has also dumped breakfast from the meal plan. “They increased our fees recently and yet they are offering a meal plan that resembles that of a prison.

We will challenge them its not fair,”lamented a member of the Student Representative Council who refused to be identified.

“Imagine chunks are the closest thing to meat that we will be provided with, its absurd we are not vegetarians,” he added.

The institution substituted meat with beans and cabbages arguing that it has the same nutritional value with meat and the decision was reached in line with austerity measures called for by Finance minister Mthuli Ncube.

This development follows hot on the heels of a steep increase of basic commodities prices owing to the freezing of fat cats bank account.

Gweru Polytechnic management were not available for comment at the time of writing.
