The government has delivered bad news to incapacitated and under-resourced teachers by announcing that they should report for work on Friday. This announcement is likely to be met by dismay by teachers as the government has declared Friday to be a public holiday so that citizens can march against sanctions.
After making the announcement last night, the government realised that it had blundered because the Sanctions Public Holiday clashes with Zimsec Examinations. As a result, the government has cancelled the public holiday for some teachers who will have to invigilate the examinations while their colleagues and other civil servants will be resting.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Prof Paul Mavima advised all teachers and students that all Advanced Level and Ordinary Level Zimsec school examinations scheduled for Friday 25 October will proceed as scheduled.
