President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on the arrest of notorious gold panners infamously known as MaShurugwi.
The gold panners with reported links to Mnangagwa himself and State security minister Owen Ncube have left a trail of blood and destruction in gold wars against the country.
They hail from Shurugwi, in Mnangagwa’s Midlands province.
Addressing small scale miners in Gweru on Wednesday, Mnangagwa said he was alarmed when he read about the violence unleashed by the panners in the media.

He said violence will not be tolerated and called on the police to seize any panners found in possession of dangerous weapons.
“We don’t want this (acts of violence) , anyone found in possession of these dangerous weapons must be arrested and sent to jail,” said Mnangagwa.
Before his pronouncement, MaShurugwi were untouchable as the police were afraid to arrest them because of their political links.
