14 illegal miners were arrested at Jumbo Mine in Mazowe this Wednesday with 11 machetes and 423 explosives discovered on their mining sites.
Four rows of copper wire and nine hammer mills were also recovered.
These series of arrests follow after a gang of MaShurugwi brutally killed a policeman Constable Wonder Hokoyo (27) by attacking him and his colleague with machetes, axes, catapults and logs.
The surviving officer Constable Kamhuka is currently admitted at Kadoma General Hospital after he sustained serious injuries.
In related news, another gang of machete-wielding men who attacked mine workers before taking off with half a tonne of gold were nabbed by the police.
Three of the suspects were arrested are
Tawanda Msipa (21), Sithemba Ndlovu (19) and Washington Phiri (22) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Shepherd Munjanja facing robbery and illegal possession of gold ore.
Is it the state’s case that the three allegedly ganged up with their accomplices who are yet to be caught and armed themselves with machetes before they went to Impi East Mine in Inyathi and unleashed terror on the workers.
They allegedly attacked the mine employees using machetes and stones.
Fearing for their lives, the mine workers fled in different directions and the gang of Mashurugwi looted a half a tonne of gold ore and sped off with their getaway vehicle.
A report was made to the police leading to the trio’s arrest.
The other unidentified accomplices are still at large
