It was a sad scene for some at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Saturday after Marry Mubaiwa’s mother wept uncontrollably following her daughter’s bail denial on assault charges.
In a video (below) secretly recorded in court, Marry consoles her mother, Helga Mubaiwa who is apparently struck with grief over her daughter’s imprisonment, whilst a prison officer impatiently waits to whisk Marry away.
Marry’s imprisonment comes barely months after she was released from Chikurubi Maximum Prison where she had languished for three weeks following her arrest last year on a myriad of charges which include fraud, misrepresentation and attempted murder.
The estranged wife of Vice-President Constantino Guvheya Chiwenga is alleged to have assaulted Vice President’s childminder, Delight Munyoro, at Hellenic School following a heated argument over the custody of Marry and Chiwenga’s three minor children.
Munyoro then lodged a police report, alleging that she sustained a cut on her lips after being struck by Marry.
She is also claiming that some of her teeth are loose and are now shaking following the alleged assault.
When Marry appeared before Harare Magistrate Bianca Makwande to answer to the fresh allegations, the prosecution said that she should not be granted bail because she had violated her bail conditions by committing another crime while out on bail.
As a result, the presiding magistrate agreed with the prosecution’s reasoning and remanded Marry in custody.
