SowetanLIVE reports that the Northern Cape couple died in Port Nolloth over the past weekend.
Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba commented that the 42-year-old woman was found deceased in their flat, while the seriously ill 54-year-old man died later on in the hospital.
Two empty bottles of homemade beer had been found in the flat and have since been seized for forensic testing with police investigating the cause of their untimely deaths.
As of Tuesday, South Africans would have endured 40 days of lockdown with strict bans on the sale of alcohol and cigarettes in place
