Man struck, robbed coming from a shebeen way after curfew hours

A MAN from Vundu Flats in Makokoba suburb collapsed after he was struck on the head with an iron bar by two robbers who got away with his cash.

Simbarashe Musumiri (46)’s life was almost cut short by Tafadzwa Mamuka (37) and Khuluza Moyo (36).

Musumiri left for his home at around 2am from a drinking hole in Makokoba and when he was about to enter the gate of the hostel the pair pounced on him.

Musumiri said: “I was a few metres away from my house when I was hit on the head. I tumbled down but luckily I had noticed one of the accused.”

He added: “I passed out and gained consciousness after a few minutes when they had searched me and got away with $1 650-00, USD$2-00 and R300.”

He said he made a report at Mzilikazi Police Station leading to the arrest of the two accomplices.

He was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said: “We urge community members to adhere to Covid-19 enforced regulations which state clearly that no one should be seen outside home between 6pm and 6am. Also members of the public are warned that the heavy arm of the law will pounce on them if they are found drinking from shebeens.”

Despite the dusk to dawn curfew some shebeen operators continue to flout the law. Just last week a man was assaulted by a group of people in a police holding area for fondling a woman’s buttocks. The group of people were arrested after they were caught drinking at a shebeen in Makokoba.-B Metro
