The “Jerusalema” dance challenge is taking social media by storm. People around the world are sharing videos of themselves dancing to the hit song Jerusalema by South African musician Master KG, featuring the voice of South African songstress Nomcebo. Not to be left out, prominent individuals all over the world have been posting videos of themselves dancing to the song.

Dancers have also put a twist on it by coming up with their own moves. Social media users say the challenge is bringing the world some much-needed positivity. Famous Lawyer Doug Coltart posted a video alongside his colleagues at Mtetwa and Nyambirai Legal Practitioners joining #JerusalemaDanceChallenge. Watch video:

 

All around the world, people, including health care workers, police officers, catholic priests, nuns, and celebrities have been sharing videos of themselves dancing to the song under the hashtag #JerusalemaChallenge.

Recently football superstar Christiano Ronaldo posted a video of a family gathering in which Jerusalema was playing in the background and other family members seemed to be dancing to it. Popular musician and actress Janet Jackson also gave a shoutout to Master KG and shared a video of a young girl dancing to the song.

The #JerusalemaDanceChallenge has got the world abuzz, with the official video garnering over 90 million YouTube views. It saw people from all walks of life taking on the challenge and has been described as the global anthem of unity amid the global pandemic.

The song struck a chord with Palestinians who have been locked in conflict with Israel for many years. Human Rights Watch has described the Israeli government’s restrictions on Palestinians as “severe” and “discriminatory”. Indeed Master KG’s “Jerusalema” is a now global phenomenon.
