Fans of daily local drama Rhythm City have been left shocked after revelations the show will be canned by after 13 years despite the fact that the soapie has been performing well with over 5.2 million viewers this year alone, making it one of the top 10 most-watched soapies in Mzansi.

The channel broke the news in a statement on Friday afternoon.

The show, produced by Quizzical Pictures, currently stars Mduduzi Mabaso, Mapula Mafole, Slindile Nodangala, Linda Sokhulu and Mcedisi Shabangu.

The last episode will air on 16 July 2021.

The news comes as a shock as the show is the second-most-watched on the free-to-air commercial broadcaster, peaking at 5.2 million viewers.

It was also named best TV soap at this year’s South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas)
