Orlando Pirates beats Cape Town City

Goals from Deon Hotto and Vincent Pule guided Orlando Pirates to a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City on Tuesday evening.

Paseka Mako, Fortune Makaringe and Vincent Pule got a recall for the Buccaneers, as City gave Saturday’s hat-trick hero Tashreeq Morris another chance up top.

Pirates made their presence felt seconds from the start after Deon Hotto raced onto a through ball into the area to go clear for a composed finish.

The second goal arrived minutes later when Pule tapped in a low cross from the left-side of the area by Thembinkosi Lorch as the Citizens failed to keep their defensive shape intact.

Lorch could’ve given Bucs a third with a side-footed attempt from a low ball on the left near the midway period, but goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh smothered emphatically.

Pirates were pushed into a substitution ten minutes to halftime through a head injury from Thabang Monare following a collision with Siphesihle Ndlovu, leaving Linda Mntambo to enter.

The Citizens reshuffled their stall ahead of the restart, with Morris withdrawn for Mpho Makola who also entered from the bench to good effect in their last two matches.

Pirates still enjoyed the better openings, as Hotto missed out on a brace through a scuffed shot with the goal in sight a little later following a cross from the right.

It became a closely contested battle in the final stages, however City fluffed clear chances through Thabo Nodada in particular and Shane Roberts.

Pirates though should’ve put the icing on the cake from a counter-attack led by Hotto, but Lorch failed to capitalise as the early goals were enough in the end.
