President of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation Henrietta Rushwaya has disowned Zimbabwean gold smuggler Tashinga Nyasha Masinire (33), who was arrested yesterday with 23 prices of gold worth R11m (US$783 000) at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Henrietta Rushwaya who was arrested last year in October at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare with 6kg of gold in her handbag just before boarding a flight to Dubai was being accused of having a hand in the recent gold smuggling.
News Hawks confirmed the development on their official Twitter account. The publication revealed that Masinire is Henrietta Rushwaya’s driver and most trusted aide.
Well-placed sources say Masinire is the most trusted aide and driver for Rushwaya and ran all her important errands. He used to travel with her everywhere, including when she was campaigning to be the Zimbabwe Miners Federation president.
Rushwaya, who is not only a bigwig, well-connected Zanu PF member, but also President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s niece, was arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare on 26 October last year trying to smuggle 6,09kg of gold worth US$330 000 to Dubai.
Henrietta has, however, denied the allegations saying the man stopped working for her in August 2020.
Speaking to ZimLive Rushwaya said he helped the man to settle in Zimbabwe from Zambia and had no birth certificate or passport.
Tashinga lived with my cousin brother in Waterfalls, that’s how I got to know him. He had no birth certificate and no passport, complicated by his Zambian origins. Last I heard he was now living in Borrowdale Brooke with someone he said was his brother.”
“If, as it is clear, Tashinga now had a passport, he got it real quick indeed. I have absolutely no idea how Tashinga got into this situation, my only crime is that I’m his ex-employer. It’s a classic case of your ex becoming pregnant, and you being blamed.”
