Police in the Dondo district, Sofala province, seized a ton and a half of marijuana cannabis sativa (‘suruma’) on Wednesday (02-06) as it was being transported in a freight truck travelling from Beira towards the Zimbabwean capital, Harare.
The PRM received an anonymous tip-off about the existence of drugs in a truck immobilised on the side of National Road Number Six (EN6) near the Dondo toll.
According to Sofala PRM spokesman Daniel Macuácua, the driver of the vehicle, its only occupant, fled when the police arrived.
The ton-and-a-half haul is the biggest drug seizure in Sofala province in the last ten years.
