Woman Loses Car To Robbers While Praying In The Mountain

A 31-year-old Domboshava man together with his four accomplices reportedly assaulted a woman who was praying in the mountain with machetes and axes before stealing her car.

The incident happened in April 2019.

Takudzwa  Mwanza was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Richard Mangosi charged with robbery.

The State represented by Lancelot Mutsokoti alleges that on 13 April 2019 at around 0001 hours, the accused in the company of his accomplices namely Edwin Katare Munyaradzi Parirewa Gahadzikwa, Knowledge Nyamuna and James Ziyambi Chidyandunge who were armed with axes and machetes approached the complainant Ireen Mataruse who was at Garimo praying mountain with her church mates.

According to state papers, the four accused persons threatened and assaulted the complainant before demanding the keys of a TOYOTA RAV 4 registration numbers AEJ 0649. The accused person forcibly took the car keys from the complainant and drove the motor vehicle to an unknown destination.

The motor vehicle was reportedly recovered dumped at Warren Park Round about along Harare Bulawayo road by CID Vehicle theft squad. Upon recovery, the motor vehicle had its number plates removed.

The radio, its speakers as well as the car battery had been removed by the accused person and his accomplices. On 14 June 2021, the accused person was arrested through a tip off and during interviews he made indications to where they dumped the stolen motor vehicle.

The value of the stolen motor vehicle is US$15000-00 and the value recover is US$10000-00

In other news, iHarare reported that a Zimbabwean student at the University of Namibia who deliberately lied to police that his laptop and mobile phone had been stolen in Victoria Falls after he sold the gadgets, has been sentenced to six months in prison.

Allan Nyamuziwa of 1724 Landpark in Marondera pleaded guilty to deliberately supplying false information to a public authority when he appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa.-Iharare News

A GRADE One pupil at Mahenye Primary School in Chipinge was on Monday trampled to death by an elephant.

The deceased, California Chimbi, met her fate while sleeping at their homestead.The elephant also destroyed the house in which the minor was sleeping.

Assistant Chipinge District Development Coordinator, Mr Tedious Beto, confirmed the incident.

He said the district’s Civil Protection Unit needs to reactivate its structures to curb human-wild conflict.

“I can confirm the death of a Grade One pupil who was attacked and killed by an elephant that had strayed from Gonarezhou National Park. The minor was sleeping in a hut with other colleagues. When the elephant approached the homestead, the dogs barked and thereby triggered the jumbo’s anger.


“It is sad that we continue to receive sad news concerning civil protection issues across the district. Last month a woman was attacked by an elephant and died on the spot,” he said.
