A black cloud hovers over Masireni Village in Ward 29, Mutandahwe in Chipinge after a 13-year-old-boy died six days after he killed a neighbor’s black cat.
The owner of the cat (name supplied) admitted to using juju to kill the boy for killing her cat.
Village head Siyaso Peter Ndhlovu confirmed the story and told Chipinge Times that the suspected witch will be appearing at his court soon to answer to allegations of killing Zacharia Mlambo using juju.
“I am aware of Zacharia’s death. He was doing Grade 6 at Mutandahwe Primary School. The suspected witch who is notorious in the area admitted to killing the boy. She will appear in court soon,” said Ndhlovu.
Zacharia’s family also visited a traditional healer and was told that the boy was killed by the neighbour.
Tambudzai Mlambo, the deceased’s mother said her son killed the cat because it was always in their house eating family food. On that particular incident the cat had eaten some fish and Zachariah spotted it the next day in a bucket of meal-mealie and he then killed it.
After realising the cat’s death, the alleged witch told the boy that the cat was her helper and she was going to make sure that he dies the same way the cat died.
“My son started complaining of a headache and his head started swelling. We took him to hospital and tests were done for malaria and COVID-19 and they were both negative. We went to the suspected witch and apologised. We even offered to pay her US$10 but she refused it insisting that all she wanted was her black cat back. My son died a painful death six days later,” said Tambudzai.
The suspected witch is immensely feared in the area.
Chipinge Times visited the village but all villagers declined to accompany the crew to the witch’s house.
“The woman is well known for witchcraft in this area. Everyone in the neighborhood is afraid of her ” said a neighbour who declined to accompany Chipinge Times to her place.
Mutandahwe Primary School head, Flashious Matchaba expressed shock at the boy’s sudden death
“The incident is shattering. Zacharia did not come to school for a week. We assumed that he would come the following Monday. We then made a follow up on a Monday only to receive the sad news of his passing on. It is so painful that we lost a well-mannered boy,” he said.
