CHITUNGWIZA residents in Zengeza 4 suburb are fuming over the death of a Grade Seven pupil, who lost his life in mysterious circumstances on Wednesday.
He had attended a Gule WaMkulu initiation ceremony, which drew the anger of her mother and uncle.
Desmond Matsatse, (12), was a pupil at Ndangariro Primary School.
His body was found with bruises on the abdomen. A rat poison sachet was also found in his room.
The schoolboy had been beaten by the Nyau dancers and his mother, Gremma Mutero, and uncle Ocean Mutero.
One of the residents spoke about how the late Desmond used to play and showcase his football skills on the street.
“We have been robbed of a boy who was skilful,” said the resident. “He was a bit of a bully but I do not believe his mother and uncle beat him to death.
“Vakapedzisa kurova mwana akanga abva kurohwa nezvigure senzira yekupikira kupinda tsika yezvigure. (They beat him as part of initiation into the Nyau cult).
“He could be a victim of the beatings, and abuse he endured, under that Gule WaMkulu cult. “They are luring our children into joining the culture, without consulting their parents, and guardians.”
The late Desmond’s grandfather, Sekuru Mutero, was rescued by police officers at the scene after an angry confrontation with the people who had gathered outside the house.
Motorists could not pass through Hondo and Chinhoyi Streets as the crowd blocked the two streets.
