On Sunday evening, 31 July, a truck and a light motor vehicle collided on the R721 in Vredefort, Free State, killing five children.
According to Netcare 911 spokesman Shawn Herbst, paramedics responded to the collision at around 7.24 p.m.
He stated that when the paramedics arrived on the scene, they discovered a massive fire.
“It was alleged that the driver of the car, which was carrying five children, had pulled off to the side of the road.” “Upon closer examination, they discovered that a truck had driven into the back of a light motor vehicle, causing the car to burst into flames,” Herbst explained.
He stated that five children passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Their genders were unknown because they had all been burned beyond recognition.” “The male driver of the car was not injured, and the driver of the truck was not found at the scene,” Herbst said.
The circumstances leading up to the incident, he said, were being investigated by the appropriate authorities. – The Daily Sun
