South Africa extends Zimbabweans exemption permits by six months

Zimbabweans now have until June 30, 2023, to renew their exemption permits, thanks to South African Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi.

The original permit deadline was December 31st of each year.

The minister’s spokesman stated that in Motsoaledi’s opinion, ordinary visa applications from citizens of Zimbabwe were extremely rare.

In November 2021, Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi decided not to renew the permits and gave the holders a 12-month grace period to get their documentation in order.

Cabinet announced in January of this year that the arrangement would be terminated by December and that permit holders must apply for a visa based on a list of critical skills in order to remain in South Africa. This could be excellent news for some Zimbabweans!
