In the meantime, experts advise people to take safety precautions during storms. Some of these steps include evacuating elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges, or peaks as quickly as possible, avoiding lying flat on the ground, never seeking shelter beneath an isolated tree, and staying away from ponds, lakes, and other bodies of water.
