AKA’s Family Get Rich From His Funeral

The family of late rapper AKA has dropped a bombshell on members of the Megacy, as his fans are known, by cashing in on them if they want to attend his upcoming memorial.

Fans of the late Lemons (Lemonade) rapper will have to part with their hard-earned cash if they want to pay their last respects to the Supa Mega.

AKA was fatally shot on Friday night together with his long-time friend and associate Tebello Motsoane, known as Tibz. AKA’s family issued a statement on Tuesday announcing details of his memorial and funeral services.

The rapper, born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, will be laid to rest this Saturday at a private provincial funeral. Before his burial, a memorial will be held for the All Eyes On Me rapper this coming Friday.

The memorial will be open to the public and will be streamed on his official YouTube channel AKAWorldWide. However, fans who wanted to attend the memorial at Sandton Convention Centre were informed that they have to purchase tickets online.

At the time of writing, tickets to AKA’s memorial service had been sold out. It is not clear how much a ticket to the event was going for.

While it is unusual in African culture for the grieving family to cash in on the loss of a loved one by selling tickets, this is common practice in the West. Tickets were sold for Kobe Bryant and Michael Jackson’s memorial services.

Also in the statement issued by AKA’s next of kin, Bongani Mohosana, known in music circles as Murdah Bongz or Mörda, is not attending the funeral service for cultural reasons.

“We’d also like to acknowledge our extended family, the Mohosanas for their unwavering support during this time, As Bongani Mohosana will be in absentia at the memorial and funeral due to observing cultural protocol,” part of the statement reads.-iharare
