“Just Like AKA Did”, Mzansi Not Happy Don Design Returns To Groove

Don Design – the DJ who watched his best friend being shot and killed less than a month ago – has returned to performing at groove spots, and not everyone is happy.

The muso – who was AKA’s official DJ – revealed his return to work just two weeks after burying the murdered star.

Don Design was part of a group of friends AKA was last seen with before he was shot and killed by an unknown gunman in Durban three weeks ago. The Jozi hitmaker has faced widespread backlash from the public for his body language caught on CCTV footage, moments before the shooting.

DON DESIGN GETS CHAMPAGNE TREATMENT AT AYEPYEP

On his Instagram Story, Don Design revealed his return to the nightlife scene with a gig at Ayepyep Lifestyle in Menlyn on Saturday, 4 March. The event – titled “A weekend in Monaco” also featured fellow music acts like Moozlie and DJ Fresh.

AKA was a regular at Ayepyep over the years, which was owned by another slain hitmaker; DJ Sumbody.

In clips posted on Ayepyep’s Instagram Stories, Don Design was seen spinning the decks. He was also spotted surrounded by beautiful ladies holding bottles of champagne.

Wearing a black T-shirt, Don put on an epic performance that had club revellers on their feet.

TOO SOON? MUSIC FANS WEIGH IN

Just two weeks ago, Don attended AKA’s funeral alongside close friends and family members. The DJ honoured his friend by pouring a bottle of Hennessy on his casket at the West Park Cemetery.

On the night AKA was shot and killed, the group of friends were en route to a gig at Durban club Yugo.

However, social media users have debated whether Don’s club was “too soon.”

A few claimed that the timing of the DJs was insensitive. Others even likened it to AKA himself, who returned to music shortly after the death of his fiancee Anele Nelli Tembe in 2021.

Progress Colensk: “Exactly what AKA did after the passing of his fiancee.”

Mzwethu Mogz Mtwesi: “I’m pretty sure AKA didn’t wait any longer after his late wife passed.”

Mpho Keith Tsoeu: “Wow! But Karma exists. WHAT GOES AROUND”

Louis Damon: “Isn’t it too early? At least he can mourn a month or so.”

Bongane Lukhele: “We still haven’t forgotten. His friends must be careful never to trust him.”
