A Lower Gweru man laced his three minor children’s porridge with poison, went to a nearby bush and committed suicide over a misunderstanding with his wife.

Bongani Mahole (37) is believed to have been left to care for the three minor children aged 12, eight and seven after his wife left him following a misunderstanding.

The three minors managed to receive treatment but are in a serious condition at Gweru Provincial Hospital.

Mahole had questioned the children’s paternity and his wife suggested they sell their beast to fund DNA tests.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the deceased was left to care for the children alone.

“The deceased then cooked some porridge, laced it with poison before giving it to the children to feed. he immediately left home and was found he was found in a nearby bush hanging from a tree.

“The children were rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where they are receiving treatment,” said Inspector Mahoko.
