Finance Ministry Boss Guvamatanga’s Daughter’s Million Dollar Wedding In Capetown

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Finance permanent secretary George Guvamatanga’s daughter’s million-dollar wedding held in Capetown south Africa recently has attracted attention.

The treasury boss could not hide his elation when he reportedly flew hundreds of guests to Capetown and hosted them on his daughter Rutendo’s wedding to Zvikomborero Nyamakura.

According to Newshawks, the bride and bridegroom arrived in style in Ferrari. The wedding cost tens of thousands of dollars and took the picturesque city of Cape Town by storm.

Guvamatanga told the wedding party and the crowd that he has never seen his daughter Rutendo so happy.

The renowned duo Nhlanhla Nciza (Mafu) and Theo Kgosinkwe, who make up the South African Afro-pop music group Mafikizolo, strutted their stuff while singing some of their best wedding songs.

THis is not the first time that Guvamaanga has invited the South African outfit to perform to a function.

In 2021, on his 50th birthday in Harare, Guvamatanga lashed out at critics saying he “cannot pretend to be poor to please everyone”.

One video from the party caused a stir on social media when Guvamatanga is seen promising to multiply by five the payment promised to one of the artists.

“So whatever there was on that bill. I don’t want to disclose. I’m multiplying what was on that bill by five. Tomorrow morning you give me your bank details and by the time you get to SA that amount by five will be in your account my brother,” said Guvamatanga.

But Guvamatanga who was managing director of Barclays Bank Zimbabwe before it was taken over by AMB Capital in 2017, defended himself saying he spent 30 years with the bank and millions were paid out as packages when he left the bank.

“I worked for a big international bank for 30 years and I was paid in offshore accounts. There are millions in that account.” he said back then.

As a public servant, some have criticized him for spending top dollar when he barely racks little from his government post while some have defended him causing a debate on social media.

While Guvamatanga has his money as a former banker, he needs to understand that public officials, employees and their families must lead modest and simple lives appropriate to their positions and income. They must not indulge in extravagant or ostentatious display of wealth.

What I don’t know is why do people who hold such key positions don’t promote Zimbabwe and it’s businesses in their private endeavours. It could have helped many Zimbabwean businesses if event was held here. My thinking, not jealous at all.

It’s hard to be a public servant even if you worked hard to enjoy the fruits of your labor they will always say you stole from us. Any track or missing funds from the ministry? Leave some stories for H Metro and iHarare, they specialize in social reporting.

This guy has been a banker for quite some time, and not just a banker but an Executive Banker. And am sure he must have amassed wealth and has a good portfolio of investments. Surely he can afford that.
