Zimbabwean nurses barred from writing NCLEX exams in US because of sanctions

Zimbabwean nurses in the United States of America were recently barred from writing The National Council Licensure Examination, NCLEX because the country is currently under sanctions.

The National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) is an exam that forms part of the Nursing registration process in the US, Canada, Australia, NZ, and other countries.

In a notice seen by Harare Live. Zimbabwe is among 14 countries that have been affected by the decision.

The notice reads;

Section 1.2 of the NCSBN Client Reference has been updated. NCSBN does not allow IDs from the following sanctioned countries: Afghanistan, Balkans, Belarus, Burma, Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire), Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Liberia, North Korea, Syria, and Zimbabwe. If a candidate presents a primary or secondary ID from a sanctioned country, ask the candidate to provide additional government-issued documentation as proof of residence in another country…

According to OFAC;

The development has sparked discussion on the US sanctions against Zimbabwe with some arguing that the targeted sanctions do affect ordinary citizens.

Here are some of the responses;

Sanctions do affect every one . Yesterday Zimbabwean nurses were barred from writing NCLEX exams as they are from “ sanctioned countries “

Even though most of us are NOT on the US OFAC Sanctions list we are affected by third party Sanctions where institutions over comply. NCLEX is just avoiding the headache of verifying if all its applicants from #Zimbabwe are not on the OFAC list or acting on their behalf!

Yesterday, Zimbabwean Student Nurses were barred from writing NCLEX Exams becoz Zimbabwe is under Sanctions. Then you hear some Misguided Clever Zimbabweans saying Nywee Nywee, there are NO Sanctions on Zimbabwe, while USA’s OFAC is telling you that Zimbabwe is under Sanctions 💔

Recently, the Minister of Health and Child Welfare Vice President Constantine Chiwenga said there are plans to introduce a law that criminalizes healthcare workers seeking employment outside the country as there has been an outflow of workers migrating to the UK and other countries.
