Following reports about a South African actor associated with the soap opera 7de Laan, who allegedly shot his male lover to death in Norkem Park, Gauteng on Thursday, management of the soapie has decided to issue a statement surrounding the matter.
Allegations are that the alleged 7de Laan actor used an unlicensed gun to shoot and kill his male lover before attempting suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping medicine.
There was a public outcry after authorities took too long to produce the identity and image of the criminal, as reported by Harare Live.
The production, however, has so far dissociated itself from the actor saying they cannot even disclose the actor’s identity.
“SABC and de Laan are deeply saddened and disturbed by the reports circulating in the media regarding a tragic incident of domestic violence involving an alleged 7de Laan actor.
“As it stands, we have no knowledge of the identity of the individual involved and would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends,’ part of the statement reads.
They have also claimed that they are trying to establish the identity of the suicidal, murderer actor.
“Production has made efforts to establish whom the said individual might be, however, as per the law, a suspect’s identity cannon be disclosed until such time that they have been formally charged.”
7de Laan’s production has shown a bit of knowing who the actor is since they have said he has featured in many soap operas in South Africa, hinting at who this might be.
“We can, however, confirm that the individual in question is not part of the current cast. It is believed the suspect was an actor who featured on a number of South African soap operas, but it is still unclear as to which.
