Chivhu Bus Accident Claims 12
It was a horror scene at the spot where a Timboom Bus crashed along the Chivhu-Murambinda Road yesterday, claiming 12 lives.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commission Paul Nyathi, confirmed the fatal accident on Twitter:
“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident in which a Harare-bound Timboom bus with 40 passengers crashed at the 5km peg along Chivhu-Murambinda Road. Twelve people, including the driver, died, and police details are still attending to the accident. More details will be released in due course.”
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the Timboom bus driver was speeding. One witness explained to H-Metro what transpired:
“The driver lost control of the bus at the curve just before a small bridge, and the bus ploughed into several trees before overturning. Twelve people died on the spot, and others were critically injured.”
Horrific pictures circulating online show dead bodies and injured people strewn all over the ground outside the bus’ wreckage, which had lost all windows and shattered parts of its body from mowing down trees.
Their luggage is scattered on the ground; some people have eerily broken limbs while others lie on each other. Relatives of the deceased and injured walk around to check for their loved ones.
Another Accident In Murehwa
The ZRP reported another accident that occurred on Friday along Murehwa-Madicheche Road.
A motorist driving a Toyota Quantum with eight passengers lost control of the vehicle, swerved off the road and overturned several times before landing on its wheels. Two people perished on the spot, while two others died upon admission at Murewa Hospital. Four injuries were recorded.
Zimbos Worried Over Road Carnage
Zimbabweans on social media expressed pain over the recent spat of fatal accidents in the country and the Timboom Bus accident.

“There is a need for laws that can include stricter penalties for offenders, increased awareness campaigns to educate drivers about the dangers of speeding and reckless driving, and improved infrastructure such as speed bumps and traffic lights. RIP to all who lost their lives.”
Wellins:
“I, for one, don’t keep quiet when a driver is speeding. I voice or better even demand to be dropped, but the problem is with us, the passengers. We cheer on the driver only to shift blame after such. My condolences to the bereaved families.”
Moses:
“Even if @PoliceZimbabwe enforce speed limits it will not work, mapurisa muroad anongopindira kutora mari ummm. one day on my way to Kwekwe ndakamiswa paroadblock police rikatanga kundibvunza triangle, spare wheel etc apa wish akasvika yakagara vanhu 4 kumberi.”
