Two Zimbabweans In Australia For MasterChef 2023 Cooking Show

Network 10 has revealed their cast of 18 cooks including two Zimbabwean Chefs who will appear on the 15th Season of MasterChef Australia titled Secrets & Surprises – a cooking show scheduled to premiere on the 1st of May 2023.

The two Zimbabwean-born contestants are; Rumbidzai “Rue” Mupedzi and Ralph Kahango who will share their Zimbabwean food, culture and traditions with this season’s judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrilloto as a way to showcase more cultural diversity and authentic representation on the Australian cooking show.

Rue Mupedzi, a 29-year-old Oral Health Therapist based in Western Australia, immigrated to Australia with her family when she was 15 years old. Her first fine-dining experience in Sydney in 2014 launched her on the route to the MasterChef kitchen since it introduced her to a whole new world, and Rue began to cook more at home, inspired by eating at restaurants and returning home to replicate recipes.

Rue left her job as an Oral Health Therapist in 2021 to follow her passion for cooking, founding a macaroon company. It took her 10 months of trial and error to develop her formula, making her a paragon of perseverance.

Her mother taught her the fundamentals of cooking, which she has supplemented with a collection of cookbooks, YouTube videos, and social media information.

Growing up in a large family in Zimbabwe and subsequently South Africa, Auditor Ralph Kahango, 32, relocated to Australia at the age of 17 and focused on his academics, eventually earning his Master of Accounting Degree.

After five years of working as a government auditor and achieving professional goals, Ralph believes the moment has come to prioritize his passion for cooking. Ralph’s creative outlet away from the limitations of work is the kitchen, and he cooks to unwind.

Ralph understands how much his parents gave up to establish a better life for their family. Ralph tragically lost two of his brothers when he was young and will be motivated by their memories in the MasterChef kitchen. Ralph has no intention of living with regret because life is brief and tomorrow isn’t certain.

Ralph admires chefs such as Marco Pierre White and has gained expertise through cookbooks, YouTube, and duplicating restaurant recipes. He is excited to share his Zimbabwean food, culture, and customs with the judges since food is both a unifier and a symbol of affection.

The full cast of MasterChef Australia: Secrets & Surprises was announced on 23 April 2023. Food critics Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo will be this season’s judges.-greedysouth
