Mamelodi Sundowns Official Dies

Mamelodi Sundowns’ long-serving official and Supporters Mobilisation Manager, Alex “Mr Goldfinger” Shakoane, has passed away. Shakoane reportedly died on Sunday following a stroke.

In a statement last evening, the club’s chairman Tlhopie Motsepe said:

“Mamelodi Sundowns is deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of its long-serving communications manager and staunch supporter,” Motsepe said.

Describing Shakoane, Motsepe said he was someone who loved the team immensely and was a loyal servant of football in Mamelodi, Tshwane and the whole of South Africa.

“The Motsepe family, the board, the supporters and all the members of the Mamelodi Sundowns family mourn and are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Goldfingers whom we all loved dearly. Bra Alex’s life was all about Mamelodi Sundowns and we will miss his unique contributions and larger-than-life personality,” Motsepe said in the statement.

The PSL also issued a statement extending their condolences to the Shakoane family. “We extend our deepest condolences to the Shakoane family, Masandawana and the football family at large,” Orlando Pirates also conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the Shakoane family.
