Makhadzi doing it like Zodwa Wabantu: Pulls multiple no shows

The much sought-after and popular Limpopo singer, Makhadzi, who recently established her own record company Makhadzi Entertainment has been in the news for the wrong reasons after it was established that she failed to show up for booked performances after receiving payments.

According to reports, she was booked to perform at the Dries Niemandt Park in Kempton Park on 30 April alongside Somizi, Sjava, Young Stunna, DJ Fresh, DJ Maphorisa and other popular acts. She charged R80 000 to perform at the Exclusive White Lifestyle gig and posters were already created.

She was the headline and closing act, and in good faith, the promoters paid her a deposit of R40 000 on 25 January to secure her services. Yet she didn’t pitch up.

According to the organiser speaking to Zimoja, Greg Hlatswayo the balance was paid on 22 April with evidence of payments made to Makhadzi’s account.

On the same date, Makhadzi was booked to perform at the Homecoming Party with Makhadzi in Limpopo as well.

Also, there was another show where she was booked to perform at the Polokwane Cricket Ground on the same night.

She was headlining the gig and shared the stage with fellow Limpopo artist King Monada and the popular deejay, Oskido.

Greg says Makhadzi was supposed to appear at the gig in person at 10 pm since the event was supposed to end at 11:30pm.

He says, “Instead of rocking up on time, she sent a text asking for extra time. They gave her the extra time, but an hour later she sent another text saying she was two hours away.”

The pissed-off organiser says they got a backlash from the fans who attended the gig, with the hope of watching their favourite artist live in action.

“Remember that Makhadzi was also late for the Metro FM Music Awards in Mbombela. She claimed to be stuck in traffic. At the rate she is going, she must just kiss her music career goodbye because music promoters are going to get gatvol. She thinks she is not irreplaceable. It’s only a matter of time before she sees her shows drying up,” he says.

Her actions are similar to recent complaints by different promoters against popular dancer Zodwa Wabantu who also short-changed them and revelleds alike.

Makhadzi could not be reached for comment.
