AKA murder: Police make major breakthroughs

Authorities have apparently made a major breakthrough in their investigation into the terrible murders of renowned rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his former manager, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, earlier this year in Durban.

AKA murder investigation heats up: Here’s everything we know

As reported by City Press, police have uncovered vital evidence, including the firearm used in the killings, following meticulous investigative work.

FORENSIC EVIDENCE REPORTEDLY COLLECTED THUS FAR

Additionally, a prepaid airtime voucher, used by one of the alleged hitmen to communicate with the orchestrators of the murders and his girlfriend, has been discovered.

Furthermore, the getaway vehicles involved in the crime have been confiscated, providing crucial leads for the ongoing investigation.

Sources within the security cluster indicate that surveillance footage has been obtained, revealing that the victims were followed from King Shaka International Airport in Durban to the restaurant where they had their final meal, on the popular Florida Road.

A POWERFUL FAMILY WITH TIES TO THE TAXI INDUSTRY

A compelling connection has emerged between the investigation and a family with ties to the taxi industry.

Remarkably, one of the individuals allegedly present at the scene of Nelisiwe “Nellie” Tembe’s tragic death may be implicated in the murder case, sources informed the cited publication.

The individual reportedly met with one of the suspects, who has been arrested on unrelated charges but is believed to have been involved in the shooting.

Further revelations suggest that one of the suspects failed to comply with orders to dispose of the murder weapon and the associated vehicle.

Consequently, when apprehended, the suspect was found to be in possession of the alleged murder weapon.

However, investigators have strategically charged the suspect with other offences to build a robust case against them in the murder of AKA and his manager.

Two separate teams of investigators, based in KwaZulu-Natal, are working independently on cracking the case.

Both teams have uncovered information implicating members of a powerful and feared family, known to have connections to the construction industry mafia, which allegedly imposes a 30% levy on projects.

Is AKA’s death linked to Anele Tembe?

The murder of AKA and Motsoane sent shockwaves through the music industry and the wider community.

The investigation into the death of Nellie, AKA’s fiancée, following her fall from a luxury hotel balcony in Cape Town in 2021, had already strained relations between the families.

Allegations of drug abuse, physical abuse, and neglect emerged during the subsequent police investigation.

The Tembe family, grieving the loss of Nellie, had previously claimed that AKA was responsible for her tragic fall from the hotel balcony.

They criticised the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for not pursuing charges against the rapper, arguing that there was ample evidence to support a case.

The family questioned AKA’s actions after the incident, alleging that he cleaned the hotel room where blood was found on towels instead of attending to Nellie.

While several individuals suspected of involvement in plotting or orchestrating the murder of AKA are under police surveillance, provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda declined to comment on the ongoing investigation, emphasising the complexity of the case and the need for time and space to conduct thorough work.
