Mai TT’s Predicament Deepens with Lengthy Incarceration

Mai TT’s Unlucky Streak Continues with Five Year Sentence . Popular socialite and comedienne Felistas Murata, popularly known as Mai TT, has been convicted of theft of trust property and has been ordered to serve a maximum of five years in jail. This is in relation to a case in which she had used a hired car as surety

ZBC reported that the magistrate, in her judgment, described the case of Mai TT as a “classic case of theft of trust property“ and ordered a maximum five–year jail term.

The state prosecution has applied for her to be remanded in custody until Wednesday, when her sentence will be handed

 

According to the State, on September 29th, 2020, Mai TT hired an Audi Q5 from Liberty Kudakwashe Vazhura at Else Car Rental.

The two parties entered into an agreement where Mai TT was to pay US$770 per week, and a lease agreement was signed. Unfortunately, Mai TT failed to make the weekly payments and became evasive.

She then transferred the car to Rachel Mhuka, who had lent her US$10 000 for her business venture. Without informing Vazhura, Mai TT used the car as security for the loan.

In January 2021, police from Rhodesville approached Mhuka and seized a car that had been reported stolen from Else Car Rental. The car was valued at US$18 000.

It had been taken by Mai TT, who had replaced it with an invalid passport as surety. When Mhuka realised that the passport was invalid, she confronted Mai TT, who returned the car.

Vazhura had reported Mai TT for theft of trust property after he failed to locate her or the car. Fortunately, the car was eventually recovered.

 

Mai TT Faces Lengthy Jail Term

In court, Mai TT denied the charges and asserted that she had paid Vazhura US$3 000 for the car and that he had consented to sell it to her. She also stated that she had receipts to prove her payments.

Mai TT is facing a potential jail sentence or a fine for theft of trust property, which is defined as “the dishonest appropriation of property belonging to another with which one has been entrusted” under Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
