Khama Billiat ‘Nowhere To Be Found’

Following weeks of rumours and confusion around Khama Billiat’s future, Chiefs provided a surprising update on Saturday, indicating that the playmaker had vanished and was “nowhere to be found.”

“Following the expiry of attacking midfielder Khama Billiat’s Kaizer Chiefs contract on 30 June 2023, the club tabled a new offer for the Zimbabwean marksman to remain with Amakhosi. However, to date, the player has not responded to the offer or any attempts to contact him,” a statement read.

“Billiat was last seen at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on 29 June and has not answered any of the calls made or messages sent to him by the club. The team is currently in camp with all the players, yet Billiat, who is also expected to be there with his teammates, failed to show up and is currently nowhere to be found.”

Before this announcement was made, his agent Godfrey Bakasa had spoken to FARPost, and also revealed the uncertainty hanging over the situation.

“Khama is obviously grateful for his time at Kaizer Chiefs and greatly respects the club. He knows the club is on a rebuilding exercise and would love to be a part of that. He’s always wanted to make history with this iconic club.

“But that depends on whether we reach an agreement with them. We are still in talks with them and are trying to find a good solution for both parties.”

Billiat’s chance to resurrect his career for one more season looked to make a probable one-year extension at the club into something of a compromise, but it’s also been suggested that Chiefs may have anticipated him to accept a salary decrease.

The most recent information now indicates that this issue is far from done and that the two sides may actually decide to separate ways.
