Breaking: Another Explosion Hits Gauteng

A gas explosion near Chloorkop in Kempton Park, Gauteng, is being attended to by emergency personnel.

This explosion, which is thought to have been caused by hydrogen, is the third to occur in Gauteng in the last two days.

According to emergency services the explosion happened on Mission Road in the Chloorkop area of Kempton Park.

Residents have been urged to keep the road clear for emergency services and to stay away from the area.

Another explosion was reported in Braam Fischerville, Soweto, Gauteng, on Thursday, July 20.

According to City of Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo, the explosion was caused by dynamite that was connected to a car battery.

Following an explosion in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday afternoon, the gas and oil business Egoli Gas reported a tiny leak on the servitude pipeline at the intersection of Bree and Eloff Streets on a 100mm pipe.

At least one person has died, 48 people have been hurt, and 12 people have been taken to the hospital.

The body of a man was found close to the scene of the explosion, according to Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi, but the man has not yet been recognised.
