Bad News For Mthuli Ncube, Others As Supreme Court Rules In favour Of 12 CCC Candidates

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube, who is running for the Cowdry Park constituency MP seat, has seen his hopes of an early victory dashed after the Supreme Court overturned the High Court ruling that barred the 12 candidates of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) from running in the 2023 elections.

The decision of Justice Bongani Ndlovu of the High Court to disqualify the twelve from running in the next general elections has been reversed.

Due to the lack of opposition, Mthuli Ncube and three other ZANU PF candidates had already won the election.

After Zanu PF members posing as registered voters contested the nomination court’s decision to accept their documents, the 12 candidates were eliminated.

The bench chaired by Justice Tendai Uchena set aside Ndlovu’s ruling stating that full reasons will be made later.

“This is the unanimous decision of the court. After carefully considering SEB 59/23.

“The appeals be and are hereby allowed with costs.

“The judgment of the court a quo be set aside.

“The application is hereby dismissed with costs.

“The reasons for the decision will be availed in due course.”

While celebrating the victory, CCC posted on social media that the ruling party was bent at stealing the whole constituency unoppossed.

Our 12 Bulawayo MPs are back on the ballot box. This was a desperate attempt by Zanu PF to smuggle their unelectable members into parliament. Bulawayo is an integral part of the election process and cannot be ignored.
