Good ‘Samaritan’ steals CCC leader’s vehicle
A renowned opposition politician suffered a humiliating defeat when an apparently kind stranger proved out to be a criminal who stole her car and then crashed it.
Thabitha Khumalo, a former MDC Alliance national chairman and current Citizens for Coalition Change (CCC) member, was stumped after a guy called Patrick Ncube volunteered to help her connect a battery to her car.
Ncube, on the other hand, took advantage of the situation, racing away with Khumalo’s vehicle despite her attempts to stop him.
Khumalo tried to reach Ncube but received no response from his phone. After two days, she managed to get through, but it was a woman who answered, revealing that Ncube had been injured in an accident and was hospitalized in Gweru.
Further communication with Ncube confirmed the unfortunate incident. He informed Khumalo that the car had been impounded by the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) in Gweru and required $300 for repairs.
Khumalo, understandably upset by the incident, reported it to the Sauerstown Police Station, leading to Ncube’s
According to Ncube’s statement, Khumalo had requested his help in connecting the battery, and he had obliged. However, she then asked him to test drive the car, and he ended up driving to Gweru, where the accident occurred while he intended to head to Shurugwi.
“She (Khumalo) came to our workplace and asked me to help connect the battery to her car and I assisted her. After that she asked me to test drive and I drove to Gweru. While I was in Gweru intending to drive to Shurugwi I was involved in an accident. I phoned her and told her that the car has been involved in an accident and has been impounded by VID. After that she reported me to the police,” Ncube said in his statement.
Despite efforts to get a comment from Khumalo, she remained unavailable for a response.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident, adding weight to the unfortunate event.
