CCC activists assault former deputy minister Barbra Rwodzi

Former Deputy Minister, Barbara Rwodzi, was allegedly assaulted by Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) members following a road traffic accident in Chirumhanzu.

The collision occurred between a vehicle driven by George Chengetai Rwodzi, the son of Barbara Rwodzi, and a vehicle driven by John Bata on the Chaka-Charandura dusty road.

Interestingly, both vehicles involved in the crash belonged to Barbara Rwodzi, the Member of Parliament for Chirumhanzu Constituency, and Patrick Cheza, the losing CCC candidate.

Following the collision, both Rwodzi and Cheza drove separately to the scene of the accident after being informed about the mishap.

However, a dispute broke out between them and their respective supporters, resulting in Cheza’s activists assaulting Rwodzi.

The incident prompted both individuals to file reports with the police. Cheza later turned himself in to the authorities accompanied by his lawyer.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the incident and assured the public that both the road traffic accident and the assault case will be handled in accordance with the country’s laws.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi released a statement stating that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirm a road traffic accident involving a vehicle driven by George Chengetai Rwodzi, son to Honourable Barbara Rwodzi, and another vehicle driven by John Bata, along Chaka-Chirandura dust road, Chirumhanzu on 24 August 2023 at 1245PM.” – Police Spokesperson Paul Nyathi.

Barbara Rwodzi recently made headlines for her controversial behavior when she engaged in a heated telephone conversation with Chester Last Matsa, a police assistant inspector stationed at Charandura police.

The incident occurred after Matsa arrested one of the minister’s supporters who was involved in removing opposition campaign posters.

In the phone call, Rwodzi openly threatened Matsa with harm and used offensive language.
