According to police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Sauro was tracked down along Rotten Row Road in Harare.

It is alleged that he had attempted to attack a “street kid” who, unfortunately, had not reported the incident to the police.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi provided further chilling details about the suspect’s modus operandi, stating,

“The suspect, who is believed to be living in the streets, would target ‘street kids’ who will be fast asleep and crush them and open the victims’ stomach to remove genitals and other body parts using empty broken bottles. The suspect would then boil or braai the human parts on an open fire place and consume them while in the Harare Central Business District.”

The gruesome nature of the crimes committed by Sauro shocked the community.

Reports suggest that he would crush the victims’ heads using boulders, instantly ending their lives.

There have been eyewitness accounts of Ndlovu holding a human heart at a certain building in the Harare CBD, prompting shop owners to chase him away.

Sauro appeared briefly in court on Tuesday, where the State successfully applied for a warrant to extend his detention.

This will allow the police to conduct further investigations and gather evidence before presenting the case to court.

He is expected to appear in court again today to face charges related to the heinous crimes he is accused of committing.

The successful apprehension of the suspected serial killer showcases the dedication and expertise of the all-female CID homicide crack team.

Their tireless efforts have brought hope to a community plagued by fear, demonstrating that justice will be served, regardless of the gender of those involved in law enforcement.

The swift resolution of this case serves as a reminder that the Zimbabwean authorities are committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of society and ensuring that those responsible for heinous crimes are held accountable.
