While the news of the honorary degree was met with celebration by many, there were some who questioned its nature.

However, amidst the debate, congratulations and well-wishes poured in for Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa, acknowledging her dedication to philanthropy.

Twitter user @AnashePfunde echoed the sentiments, noting,

“Magical moment of joy at UZ as the first lady of Zimbabwe, Dr. Auxilia Mnangagwa, is awarded a Doctorate by the institution for her philanthropic and humanitarian work.”

Comparisons were drawn to a similar event in 2016 when former President Robert Mugabe awarded his wife a doctorate, a move that was followed by his eventual deposition.

Some critics have expressed concerns about President Mnangagwa’s emulation of his predecessor’s actions. Twitter user @T_S_I_B_O commented,

“The year was 2016, Mugabe capped his wife. It was only a tear before he got deposed. Emerson Mnangagwa was itching to do everything Mugabe was doing. He’s doing the exact things his predecessor did with no shame at all. Its appalling.”

Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa’s philanthropic work has not only been recognized within Zimbabwe but also on the international stage.

As Twitter user @rangamataire pointed out,

“She has been bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate Degree because of her exceptional philanthropic work in the country, whose impact and influence has been felt and recognized internationally. She is the Mother of the Nation, the First Lady, Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa.”

In the face of criticism and historical comparisons, the recognition of her philanthropic efforts remains a powerful affirmation of her commitment to making Zimbabwe a better place.
