Cop fatally shoots wife, turns gun on himself

Police in Motetema,Limpopo have opened a case of murder and an inquest docket following the death of a couple at Moganyaka village, outside Groblersdal in the Sekhukhune District.

SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that on Saturday, the police responded to a shooting.

“Upon arrival they discovered two lifeless bodies of a married couple in a pool of blood in their bedroom and the firearm next to the deceased man.

It is reported that a 41 year old man and his wife of 37 year old had a heated argument in their bedroom on Friday night” .

Ledwaba added that it is the couple?s son who made the gruesome discovery and alerted the police

Ledwaba said the deceased is a member of The South African Police Service, a sergeant attached to Tembisa Police Station in Gauteng Province.

According to the information the late sergeant was on leave when the incident took place. The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in LImpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident and further reiterated her appeal to couples and families to seek assistance from professionals if they are facing domestic related problems to avoid these painful ending.

The motive behind the incident is not known and investigations are underway. The element of domestic violence cannot be ruled at this stage, said Ledwaba
