Widow Of Senzo Meyiwa Investigator Murdered In Drive-by Shooting

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has verified that the widow of a senior police officer involved in the investigation into the death of Senzo Meyiwa was killed in a drive-by shooting in Vosloorus.

Brigadier Philani Ndlovu, a former officer, died in May of last year, just weeks after the first Meyiwa murder trial began. Nonhlanhla, his wife, was slain approximately 18 months later.

Brigadier Ndlovu was one of the most senior police officials on the scene when former football player Meyiwa was gunned down at his lover Kelly Khumalo’s Vosloorus home. Despite the fact that he was not scheduled to testify in the murder trial, his name was referenced several times during the proceedings.

The shooting occurred around 12.50 pm on Sunday, November 5, 2023. Mrs Ndlovu was driving in Vosloorus when suspects in another vehicle driving beside her opened fire on her. At this point, the reason for the killing is unknown, and authorities are calling anyone with information to come forward.

Brigadier Ndlovu’s death in May of last year sparked conjecture, with some stories claiming he was poisoned and others claiming he died of illness. The circumstances of his death remain unknown.

The murder of his wife stunned the community and sparked worries about the safety of persons participating in high-profile criminal investigations. The murder case of Senzo Meyiwa has been protracted and complicated, with many trials and investigations.
