Govt condemns killing of CCC activist Tapfumanei Masaya

Government has finally condemned the killing of Tapfumanei Masaya (51) whose body was found at the intersection of Arcturus and Lobho Roads in the Cleveland area of eastern Harare on Monday.

After a wave of criticism over the alleged abduction and killing of the Masaya, government through Permanent Secretary of Information and Publicity Nick Mangwana said there is need to respect the sanctity of life.

The wanton killing of a human being should never be tolerated in a civilized society. The need to respect the sanctity of human life cannot be overstated. Those who commit acts of barbaric savagery for whatever cause, and in whatever name have to face their comeuppance. And no sane member of society should ever associate themselves with actions that demean the value we append to the human race. Not in my name. Not in your name. Such are on their own. Nick Mangwana said

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said a post-mortem is being done to ascertain the cause of death.

He said next of kin were able to identify the dead man as Masaya.

“The ZRP is currently conducting comprehensive investigations on the circumstances surrounding Tapfumanei Masaya’s death while at the same time waiting for a full post-mortem report,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.

“The body has been positively identified by the wife, Maria Zhuwawo,” family lawyer Innocent Gonese confirmed.

Masaya was allegedly abducted on November 11 in Mabvuku, Harare, while campaigning for Munyaradzi Febion Kufahakutizwi, a party candidate for the upcoming December 9 by-election.
